Let’s Pretend

How do you accept leaving one of the most fabulous places on the planet…well, you just darn well do not accept the reality of it all. Let’s just pretend we’re staying. Ashleigh and I have lived in this little room in this little part of Florence for twenty- three days. We’ve gotten up in the morning and rushed out to encounter whatever Florence has had to offer. We feel as though we belong here, and we like the feeling. Several times during our stay, we have run into someone we have met at a shop or store or eatery. Today, we bumped into someone we like. There’s a lot of reward in having even a casual relationship validated with a sincere smile and invitation to stop by for a drink. So, that’s how it is, and here’s what the last day in Florence looked like.

Finding our way to San Marco’s Museum to see some magnificent frescos. Take a peek for yourself. Here’s Mary being visited by the angel, Gabriel.

There are about sixty of these frescos, all painted by a monk named Fra Angelico who was born in 1395 and died in 1455. These paintings, done on plaster are all over the monastery. Each monk seemed to have one of his own in his room. The monastery is quiet; there are many places to reflect.

The sun was out in full force today….we left the monastery and went into town for pizza.

We never get tired of looking at the Duomo.

And we never get tired of the gluten free pizza that has been perfected in Florence.

Our favorite pizza joint is right across from the Duomo. Location! Location! Location!
