On the Road to 2022

I must admit, I have not felt much like keeping this blog for at least eight months. In fact, the time between February and right now has been challenging. Last spring started with the fashion statement you see below. What are those?

Well, if you guessed hospital socks, you guessed correctly!!! These dull socks are only matched by the standard hospital gown and mask.

Marked and prepped, my right knee found itself under the able care of my surgeon, Dr. Bradley Boyd,

…and not long afterward, the new knee was up and mobile.

All the surgery bruhaha was followed by some seriously long and arduous time in physical therapy.

Just when it seemed as though the entire process would never end, seven months had passed, and I was able to go to the mall and enjoy the sights….and show off my knee….

to you know who!!!!

This Unseasoned Traveler has experienced the inside of hospitals and PT clinics more than anyplace else this year….not at all exotic, BUT I am hoping that 2022 finds us all healthy and happy and ready to hit the road. Look for me in the new year…until then, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Love, The Unseasoned Traveler

    1. Jennifer…..Happy New Year. I hope you and everyone you love and care about are all well. My “running” as you describe it is limited. My new knee is coming along, but the other one is acting up. I have started a round of HA….that is hyaluronic acid….same stuff you put on your face….I am trying everything I can to avoid another surgery, but optimism in this case is difficult. Tell me what you think. I often wonder what you are doing….fill me in when you can….j.

  5. Jackie! Wonderful to open my email on the first day of this new year and see your post!! I’ve thought often of contacting you but sloth has slowed me down. Best wishes to you and Bruce (and Ashleigh) for a peaceful, healthy, active 2022!!!

    1. Greetings, David,
I also have thought of you often since we last connected which seems like forever ago. Like yourself, I found it difficult to put pen to paper as my grandmother was fond of saying. The “situation” we are all finding ourselves in is wearing thin and draining what little enthusiasm I have left. Add in my repaired knee and perhaps my soon to be repaired other knee….well….you get the idea….not sloth….but I think exhaustion. David, did you take your trip last September? Did you and Marcia have a wonderful experience? I wondered if you went or if caution kept you home. Currently, I have no plans to go anyplace, but I yearn to travel….especially back to Florence. Every memory of that trip comes close to perfect, and that includes meeting you and Marcia and Bill and Diane. Please send them my greetings as well. FYI, Ash is still in Thailand living her best life. She has been there for so long that I have lost track of time where she is concerned.
My hope is that we see one another on the Orient Express in the dining car….you in a tuxedo and Marcia, Ash and I in slinky dresses and strappy shoes, but without masks….and we cry out names and greetings in delight…..and join in a drink that turns into a meal which turns into a night of conversation and memory making….Happy New Year, David.

  11. Bruce and I want to extend our good wishes for a very good new year ahead. 2021 doesn’t sound as if it was all you would have wished it to be. I can completely understand. Two weeks before Christmas in 2020 I fell and fractured my humerus bone in my right arm, spent two months in a brace, slept in a wing chair, and did a lot of pacing the house in the middle of the night. Finally the clam shell brace came off, my arm hand lost all strength and months of physical therapy ensued. It is almost back to normal, though I have doubts it will ever easily duplicate what my left arm can accomplish behind my back.

Enough! We are vaccinated, bolstered, doing exercise through Zoom classes, walking daily, going to the library and Whole Foods fully masked, and fortunately still visiting with our fully vaccinated family members. And, dreaming to travel!

All our best to you and Bruce. May 2022 be a good year.

    1. Hi, Donna….Happy Holidays…I got your fabulous Christmas card. It really is one to treasure for always. I am saving it so I can look at it throughout the year. The sentiment in that greeting made me like you even more than I already did….it was sincere and touching…just what I needed…thank you, Donna, for finding just the right thing. You are special. So happy you read the blog post. I have not written in a long time. My knee has put a shadow on my life….I feel I will never be myself again.I am almost sorry that I had the replacement done. YES…enough….we are also fully vaccinated and boosted…I exercise every day, and I dream of living in another country for an extended period of time. …perhaps 4 months…wanna join me??? It would be fun…even with my wonkie knee…I love hearing from you…write again soon….love, j.
