Dear Museo Dell ‘Opera Del Duomo, I love you for so many reasons. You are new, neat, tidy, and well organized. Each turned corner presents an opportunity to gasp in wonderment. You live up to the words on the wall at your entrance, “Un’ Opera A Molte Mani.” Below the words in Italian, the translation, “The Work Of Many Hands,” is written. The work of many hands is an understatement. Inside the walls, on the three amazing floors, of Museo Dell ‘Opera Del Duomo can be found the works of Michelango, Donatello, dellaRobbia, and Ghiberti to name only a few. I love the long halls and soft grey walls. The color of the walls is a constant theme, making a perfect contrast to the white marble, silver, gold, and bronze of the pieces on display.
I love the way you offer copies of the originals to let visitors touch…because you know that people love to touch. The copy below is a Michelangelo, and Ashleigh shares the moment with a fellow art lover.
I love the way you let visitors come so close the objects some of them have waited a lifetime to see. Here, you can see where the aging Michelangelo was so angry with the marble that he hit the arm of Christ with a hammer. Do you see the crack?
Dear museum, I love how you have given statues a setting so that the stone lives. See the sadness on the face of Michelangelo(that’s his self portrait there).
We get to see Ghiberti’s Baptistery doors the way Michelangelo saw them. It is said that when Michelangelo saw the doors, he deemed them fit to be the doors of paradise, and the name remains to this day. Visitors can get so close to these Doors of Paradise. There’s even a place to sit and contemplate this masterpiece.
I love the way the light hits the work and compels visitors to look. This is Donatelo’s Mary Magdalene.
The museum makes these works, and so much more, available to the public, and the public gets to experience the works in a very personal way. Love well deserved….Buona Notte, The Unseasoned Traveler.

Jackie and Ashleigh….love the documentation of this journey. You are giving me a refresher course in art and European history. I showed my mom all of your pics as my parents were there two years ago. They missed some of what you are experiencing, so it was a great lesson through your eyes.
