Another Reason

First, you can visit Frankfort because it has a wonderful bridge, Eisener Steg (Iron Bridge). The bridge is loaded with locks which, internationally, have come to symbolize the commitments of lovers.

The Iron Bridge was destroyed in WWII, but was quickly rebuilt in 1946. It is a pedestrian only bridge, and around 10,000 people a day use it. There is an inscription at the top of the bridge written in ancient Greek from Homer’s Odyssey. I wanted to know the meaning of this, so I turned to Google. Roughly translated the inscription means, “While sailing over the wine-dark sea to men of strange speech.” I also learned that the inscription was chosen for the bridge because of Frankfort’s diverse population.

The quote symbolizes the blending of many different kinds of people. And Frankfort is such a place. They are proud to be one city of many. Second, come to Frankfort for the diversity.

Third, you can visit Frankfort for the sausages….like no other in the world!!!! Did I mention the mustard and bread????

Add visiting the market to you list of reasons to come to this wonderful city.

Or you can visit to see how Frankfort is still recovering after WWII by rebuilding and restoring.

Finally, you can come to Frankfort for its superb museums, not the least of which is the Stadel Museum. See a Picasso.

Linger by this beautiful Botticelli.

A fascinating Rembrandt lives here. It is titled The Blinding of Samson.

Take a hard look at this painting of Goethe, and you will see that it has two left feet. How’s that for perspective!!!

And then see Andy Warhol try his hand at the same subject.

If all else fails, just admire the staircase. It is fabulous, and you get to walk on it.

Frankfort is a great stop on the Rhine.

HI, Jen…how are you? I slept in tis morning…but time to move as the weather in our favorite city, Firenze, is warm and sunny. Also, look how much bigger Goethe’s left leg is than his right one….the artist was a friend of his, but not good on perspective…lol

I love the Roman cobbled squares. I danced on a stretch of Roman road by the museum in Cologne.
