Know where a long plane ride and three hot, crowded train rides can get you? The amazing world of Sorrento, Italy that’s where.
That’s where I wanted to go, but really, did I feel as though I was in Italy? The answer to that question was no. Being greeted by Vincenzo, the charming Green House manager, did not make me feel as though I was in Italy, nor did moving into a cute room with a patio garden full of wisteria help.
A refreshing shower and change of clothes did nothing for me…after all, I thought, the water is Italian. Right?? The delightful perfume that fills the air is orange blossoms, and the Sorrento walk through town is filled with people taking in the perfume as well as the sights, but was I feeling as though I was really in Italy? Again, no.
The orange trees are all over the place!!!! Fruit for the taking.
This unseasoned traveler began to think that the adventure was off to a dull start. And then I stepped into the Sorrento Cathedral. The cathedral was hosting an operatic concert. The church sanctuary was full of music lovers for good reason. The soprano, baritone, and accompanist were filling the space with Mozart, Verdi, and Bellini.
The magnificent sounds of the music coupled with the elegance of the church made me stop and slowly do a look around. I spent the next few hours walking Tasso Square, eating spaghetti and gelato, and even drinking some of the limoncello Sorrento is famous for. And say, how about those ever so sweet orange blossoms? I’m in Italy, and it is wonderful. Love to All, Jackie
Spaghetti looks wonderful as did those Oranges still on the trees. Madi and I both loved the Cathedral ceiling. Do you know who painted it?
