Telltale Signs

Tomorrow, August 28, Starbucks is officially kicking off the fall season with the return of its autumn signature drink, the Pumpkin Spice Latte. This year, the Pumpkin Spice Latte is returning before Labor Day. This singular drink makes me think of Uggs, sweaters, colorful leaves, and cooler temperatures. BUT!!!! WAIT!!! The air conditioners are still running; the ceiling fans are still turning; the temperature is still toasty. However, there are certain telltale signs (indeed, Pumpkin Spice Lattes among them) that make us think of fall. Especially, near the seashore, fall is in the air.

You can tell fall is approaching by the long shadows cast by the evening sunset.

Kids and their parents show up at the shore for that last little bit of crabbing before school begins, and sometimes they get lucky!!!

Much to the annoyance of the trash collectors, folks start leaving behind their faithful, summertime companions, a sure sign that the end of the season is on the way.

High noon finds the pool empty and the pool supervisor happy!!! Hello there, cooler weather.

Friends use the final days of the season to spend time together.

And other friends make plans for relocating.

Sensing that the dog days are almost over, canines take their humans for walks. Here’s Teddy with his Valery,

and Merlin out and about with his favorite lady.

Those beachgoers that linger to the end of the season find it necessary to consume generous amounts of that all important food group, ice cream.

While the more health conscious have all the wonderful produce abundance that comes with the end of the season.

And everything is local.

Bayside sunsets are earlier, making them even more beautiful.

It’s true, summer is winding down, but I am hoping for a tiny bit more time in this summer junket.

Here I am, holding on to the last of a great summer season, but looking forward to the delights that I know fall will bring. See you then. Ciao with love, The Unseasoned Traveler.

  4. Fall is indeed in the air. Madi starts 5th grade today. Going to be riding her bike most of the year. Girls on the run starts in October. Libby and I are making Thanksgiving Holiday travel plans. Few orange leaves are finding way onto the trees outside. Fall is my favorite time of year. Guess September birthday makes it a natural. Out and into the world then. Mom believed in baby outside in stroller on nice days.
Still like Java Chip for that late Summer -early Fall drink. Hugs, Betsy
