No special plans today. Our tour organizer and new special friend, Inez, took us to Piazzale Michelangelo. Below the piazzale, there is an enormous garden that has been planted with iris bulbs. The garden hosts an international iris competition every year, and it is currently alive with color and beauty.
Entrance to the garden is free; free admission and the amazing flowers bring out the people of Florence. Add today’s great weather for a Sunday treat.
Citizens sit or stroll, but the real star of the show is the iris.
Some other flowers balance the garden.
And there are some friendly lizards, too.
A local merchant sells iris cakes. One ingredient is iris powder. It is an old, family recipe. Sooooo very tasty and gluten free.
Here Inez is about to purchase cake for everyone.
A short bus ride gets you from Piazzale Michelangelo to Piazza Duomo for some Gucci window shopping. This is the view from the second story Gucci window balcony.
If you are lucky, a charming sales associate will let you step out onto the small balcony to see the people below and listen to the church bells chime.
Walk to Piazza della Signoria to admire Perseus Slaying Medusa. A pigeon has the same idea.
A bride and groom claim the piazza for their own.
The people in the piazza erupt in cheers.
Everyone is charmed, and we all start taking pictures.
This is where I’m leaving it today. See you soon, The Unseasoned Traveler.
